Little Bits, affectionately known as Beastie

Just over a month into his young life, Little Bits found himself inside a box on the side of the road. He must have been terrified. Thankfully, a Good Samaritan discovered him and brought him to the SPCA of Texas for help.

Nessie, now known as Dixie

Roaming the streets alone is scary enough, but for Dixie, it must have been terrifying. This blind senior Blue Healer mix, thought to be seven years old who came to us as a stray in May of 2022. After a thorough exam and a few weeks of treatment for the condition of her eyes, our medical team decided that for her comfort the best solution for Dixie was to remove both eyes.

Bruce, now named Duke

Bruce was found wandering the streets alone earlier this year. A senior, he just wanted to live out his life in comfort. But there he was. Lost, alone, and scared. When he walked through the doors at the SPCA of Texas, we knew he needed a lot of care and even more love. He had a heart murmur, had several teeth removed and was heartworm positive. Despite all his challenges, he remained a cheerful and loving dog.

Ella

Ella was surrendered by her owner in December of 2017 when they moved and were not able to take her with them. As sad as situations are for the humans to give up their friends, the animals feel the trauma of losing a family as well. To learn to trust people again takes a village of staff and volunteers providing medical and behavioral care as well as lots of love to get them ready for a new home.

Hippo

Handsome Hippo arrived at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center along with five dogs, five koi fish, two cats, and one macaw who were all seized from a property in Van Zandt County in June of 2022. Our Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit (ACI Unit) had tried multiple times to work with the owner to make sure all her animals were cared for properly, but unfortunately that didn’t work out.

Yam

Yam arrived in awful shape. He came to our Equine and Livestock team in February of 2022 as a suspected vehicular hit and run victim.
