Dogs & Cats

A wide variety of dogs and cats are waiting for their new homes at our shelters and in foster homes. We prepare all dogs and cats for adoption by providing the following: spay or neuter surgery, microchipping, all age-appropriate vaccinations and medical and behavioral evaluations.

Our animals are fully assessed and medically readied for their new home.

FULLY CARED FOR AND SUPPORTED.

We prepare all dogs and cats for adoption by providing the following: spay or neuter surgery, microchipping, all age-appropriate vaccinations and medical/behavioral evaluations.

Our process is transparent and aims for a perfect match.

SPCA OF TEXAS ANIMALS ARE SPECIAL.

Many of the dogs and cats in our care come from places where they suffered from cruelty and neglect, and we spare no effort in giving them a second chance at a happy life. Our staff is transparent about each pet, where they came from, what we know about them, and what we don’t know so that you can feel confident when making your decision to adopt.

We make behavioral recommendations for animals, and in some cases, require specific home characteristics due to our commitment to ensure the happiness and safety of our adoptive families and our adoptable pets. Some of our pets may require additional medical support throughout their lives, and we aim to ensure families know everything they need to know before they adopt.

Working Cats

Some cats are not interested in being pets but make great workers, keeping pests away from your business, barn or residence. Through our Working Cats program, you can provide a home to a cat who will in turn literally keep the mice away. There’s no adoption fee, and all you have to do is provide food, water and shelter.

THE FINE PRINT

The SPCA of Texas completes rigorous medical and behavioral testing on every animal in our care. The organization fully discloses all known medical and/or behavioral conditions, including any incidents of biting or violent behavior toward a human, to all adopters and fosters.

Despite the rigorous testing our veterinary and behavioral professionals conduct throughout every animal’s stay in our facilities, other new and/or unknown medical and/or behavioral conditions may manifest in any animal at any time.

By adopting or fostering an animal from the SPCA of Texas, adopters and fosters acknowledge at the time of adoption or fostering that they may receive an animal with an undetected medical and/or behavioral condition and/or that a new medical and/or behavioral condition may appear at any time in the future. Any pet adopted from the SPCA of Texas can be returned to us at any time for any reason at no cost.
