SPCA of Texas Transfers in Animals from
the Gulf Coast in Preparation of Hurricane Laura

(DALLAS, TX); August 25, 2020 – The SPCA of Texas is responding to the imminent Hurricane Laura threatening the Gulf Coast by transferring in animals from Gulfport, Mississippi and Houston, Texas. The organization may take in more animals as evacuation efforts progress in various areas along the Gulf Coast as needed.

On Tuesday afternoon, the SPCA of Texas worked with the Humane Society of North Texas to take in 24 cats/kittens that arrived by plane thanks to Wings of Rescue from the Houston SPCA. These cats were transported to the SPCA of Texas’ Russell H. Perry Animal Care Center in McKinney.

On Tuesday evening, the SPCA of Texas returned to the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center from the Humane Society of South Mississippi with 21 cats and kittens.

The animals transferred to the SPCA of Texas are unowned shelter pets that were waiting for adoption, allowing those shelters to make room for displaced and stray pets affected by the hurricane.

The SPCA of Texas is preparing to assist with additional transfers from other animal shelters and other disaster response efforts. The organization will release more information as it becomes available.
