Mid-Year Update!

The SPCA of Texas has had an incredibly eventful year so far. We’d like to give you a quick update on what we’ve done in the first half of 2018!

January – June 2018

Animal Welfare: Adoptions, Foster

We are thrilled to announce that 3,763 animals have found their forever homes in the first half of 2018! Of that number, 74 of those adoptions were made through our foster program. Our wonderful foster heroes work patiently with animals that have a wide variety of needs before they can go to their forever families. In total, our foster volunteers have opened up their hearts and their homes to 729 pets in need!

Animal Cruelty Investigations

Every day, our Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit receives and investigates reports of animal abuse across North Texas. From January to June, 1,740 animals came to the SPCA of Texas through animal cruelty investigations. These animals were rescued from 1,008 investigations of abuse and neglect situations in the City of Dallas and seven North Texas counties.

Spay/Neuter and Wellness Clinics

Our veterinary team has been working hard to reduce the number of unwanted litters in the North Texas community by performing 12,280 spay/neuter surgeries so far this year! That total includes surgeries for the general public, free surgeries funded through the Southern Dallas Pet Initiative/Let’s Fix This and for our shelter pets!
Our clinics are busier than ever! From January to June, our clinics served 16,690 pet parents. Whether providing vaccines at one of our community wellness events, examining patients or filling prescriptions, our clinic team has been working nonstop to keep pets in our community happy and healthy! 

Community Pet Program

Through the Southern Dallas Pet Initiative/Let’s Fix This, which provides free spay/neuter surgeries to residents of 23 zip codes in Southern Dallas, the SPCA of Texas has fixed 6,323 pets so far!

Pet Resource Center

Here at the SPCA of Texas, we know that any pet owner can fall on hard times. That’s why we are proud to provide grant-funded assistance to pet owners in need through our Pet Resource Center. Many of the people who reach out to us are at risk of having to surrender their pet due to financial or behavioral difficulties. We are thrilled to report that since the beginning of 2018, we’ve managed to help almost 93% of struggling pet owners keep their pet in their home. Through the SPCA of Texas wellness clinics, the SPCA of Texas Behavior program and 10 outside full-service veterinary clinics, the Pet Resource Center has been able to help 706 pets!

Customer Care Center

The phones are ringing off the hook! Our Customer Care Specialists make appointments at our spay/neuter and wellness clinics and animal intake and are prepared to answer just about any question that comes their way about the SPCA of Texas – which is good, because they answered 48,232 calls between January and June! Volunteers

As a non-profit organization, the SPCA of Texas depends on the generosity of the members of the North Texas community who volunteer their time with our animals. Whether it’s washing dishes, grooming dogs, cleaning kennels, making enrichment toys, providing adoption counseling, socializing dogs and cats, taking photos, or any of the hundreds of other tasks we need help with, our volunteers are there to answer the call to action! These selfless individuals have already donated 94,872 hours of their own time to help the animals under our care. They are on pace to reach 188,000 hours for 2018 – a significant increase over 2017!
