If any dogs test positive for Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) at the shelter, we are immediately isolating them at our medical teams counsel and attempting to get them into a foster home. Since distemper positive dogs can shed the virus to other dogs for up to 3 months, they need to be isolated for that entire period or they pose a risk to other dogs at the shelter.

Volunteer and make every day special for the animals in our shelters. Give your time and heart based on your schedule and interests.
We rely on animal lovers like you to help us in our mission to provide every animal exceptional care and a loving home. We are thrilled to offer a variety of experiences for animal-loving groups as small as four and as large as 25.
Our donation-based experiences help cover the resources needed to host groups, as well as provide funding for the sick, injured and abused pets in our care. Since we are not government-funded and rely on donations from our community, these donations from groups really help us with our lifesaving work.
We understand that not all groups have funds to contribute and simply want to contribute their time, which we deeply appreciate as well! Non-profit organizations and schools can participate in these activities without a donation, though we will send you a list of supplies that we will be using during the experience to have you bring with you.
We’re dedicated to offering an enriching stay while pets are in our care. As a team, you will assemble and deliver enriching activities, like stuffed treat toys, scent activities, reading books in kennels and more. You’ll help our pets stimulate all five senses until they find their new homes!
For groups of 12 or more, you will have your own dedicated session. For groups less than 12, we may pair you with another similar-sized group to maximize your impact.
Recommended Donation: $25 per participant

With thousands of animals entering the care of the SPCA of Texas each year, our animals are always in need of treats, toys, and bedding to make their experience as enriching and comfortable as possible. This group experience is a supply drive that your organization can operate remotely to collect pre-selected supplies from one of our provided wish lists to send our pets some love!
Once your scheduled supply drive is complete, we’ll schedule a time to have you deliver the materials and take a group photo at our facility.
We have three supply options for you to choose from to best meet the interests of your group:
