SPCA OF TEXAS RECEIVES 35 HOMELESS CATS AND KITTENS DISPLACED BY HURRICANE IDA
HOMELESS CATS RELOCATED FROM JEFFERSON PROTECTION & ANIMAL WELFARE SERVICES ARE NOW SAFE AT THE SPCA OF TEXAS

(DALLAS, TX); September 2, 2021 – Yesterday, September 1, 2021, the SPCA of Texas received 35 cats and kittens displaced by Hurricane Ida at the request of the ASPCA® (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®). The ASPCA collaborated with Jefferson Protection & Animal Welfare to transport the unowned cats to the SPCA of Texas’ Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center to make space for more incoming animals displaced by the aftermath of the storm. The cats and kittens will be medically and behaviorally evaluated for adoption or placement on a case-by-case basis.

“As communities are grappling with the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, we are glad to assist by relocating animals to our shelter,” said Courtney Burns, Interim Vice President of Animal Welfare for the SPCA of Texas, “Our partnerships with the ASPCA and other shelters allow us to make a big difference and save the lives of animals in need.”

The SPCA of Texas has brought in a total of 95 cats and kittens from Gulf Coast areas affected by Hurricane Ida in the past week. The organization needs the community’s support now more than ever. The SPCA of Texas is asking the public to adopt or foster a pet if they can or donate supplies to help the cats and kittens now in their care. Items needed include cat beds, fleece blankets, towels, cat toys, canned cat food, litter boxes, litter scoops, non-clumping cat litter and Kitten Milk Replacement (KMR).
