Senior Dogs at SPCA of Texas Fetch Grant

[DALLAS, TX; McKINNEY, TX; July 10, 2020] – Old dogs have something to wag about this summer, as The Grey Muzzle Organization announces the recipients of its annual grants, and dogs at the SPCA of Texas are among the winners.

The SPCA of Texas in North Texas is one of 64 animal welfare groups chosen from 288 applicants to receive a grant to help local senior dogs. The winning groups received more than $510,000 in grants to help save or improve the lives of at-risk old dogs in their communities.

“Many senior dogs have a lot of high-cost medical issues that might deter adopters. For these dogs, the SPCA of Texas Fospice program is the answer. Fospice is foster + hospice. Foster volunteers take these senior dogs into their homes for the rest of the dog’s life, while the SPCA of Texas covers all of their medical and dental care. This grant will help us increase the number of senior dogs in fospice by 30%. Then more dogs like 8-year-old Huey, will get to enjoy their best life in their fospice home,” said Karen Froehlich, President and CEO for the SPCA of Texas.  “No one is more grateful or loving than an old dog, and we’re looking forward to helping more senior dogs get the second chance they all deserve.”

Over the past 12 years, the national nonprofit Grey Muzzle Organization has provided $2.5 million in grants to support its vision of “a world where no old dog dies alone and afraid.”
