FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(DALLAS, TX); June 9, 2021 – The SPCA of Texas announced today a $15,000 grant investment from the newly named, Petco Love, to support their lifesaving work for animals in North Texas. With help from this grant, the SPCA of Texas will help make the streets of North Texas “Litter Free” by equipping communities to create positive outcomes for cats and kittens through community-based fostering, developing new foster programs, finding loving homes for adoptable cats and kittens and proactive spay/neuter campaigns.
Petco Love is a nonprofit leading change for pets nationally by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since their founding in 1999 as the Petco Foundation, they’ve empowered organizations with $300 million invested to date in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. And, they’ve helped find loving homes for more than 6.5 million pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations, like ours, nationwide.
“Today Petco Love announces an investment in the SPCA of Texas and hundreds of other organizations as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, President of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only one component. Last month, we also launched the first of our national tools to empower all animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us.”
“The SPCA of Texas is grateful to have the support of Petco Love for our Community Cat program, which improves the lives of both cats and people in our community,” said Karen Froehlich, President & CEO of the SPCA of Texas. “These funds will allow us to continue our efforts to reduce the population of homeless cats on our streets and save lives of numerous cats and kittens.”
The SPCA of Texas has provided surgeries for Community Cats through their clinics for years, and in 2020 the organization started the Community Cat Program to empower the citizens of North Texas to Trap-Neuter-Return cats in their neighborhoods. The program provides resources such as training, trap loans and free surgeries to simplify the process of spaying and neutering free roaming cats. In 2020, nearly 2,500 Community Cats were spayed/neutered, vaccinated and returned to their homes through the SPCA of Texas. Trap-Neuter-Return is the most efficient and humane method to decrease the free roaming cat population and stop kittens being born on the streets. In 2021, the SPCA of Texas has already spayed/neutered over 1,000 cats. More information can be found at spca.org/communitycats.
