Boone is a gentle male dog who came from a case and is still trying to make sense of everything life has recently asked of him. Right now, the shelter feels like a very big, very overwhelming place for him, and he’s doing his best to quietly cope while he learns that he’s safe again.
In his Dog Introduction, Boone showed soft, worried body language—tucked tail, lip licking, and avoidant, appeasement behaviors. He co-exists with people around him, but he tends to hang back and is starting to shut down in the kennel environment. He isn’t being difficult or unkind—he’s just scared, unsure, and trying to keep himself small in a world that feels loud right now.
Boone doesn’t need anything fancy—just a calm, patient space where he can exhale, decompress, and slowly begin to trust again at his own pace. With kindness and time, dogs like Boone often surprise us with how much they can open up once they finally feel safe.
If you’re able to open your home to Boone and help him take that first step toward feeling secure again, please reach out to foster@spca.org.
