Foster Hero Stories

Sabrina Raneen

Sabrina has been fostering with us since November of 2019 and has been a huge advocate for her foster pup, Jada, the entire time. Sabrina is a software engineer who enjoys reading and art in her spare time.

On fostering and what it brings to her life-

I’ve been fostering since November and I’m still fostering my first dog, Jada, who is a sweetheart! Although it’s a lot of work, it’s such a pleasure to be making an impact in an animal’s life.

On the difficulties of fostering-

I currently still have my first foster dog, but I have had dogs growing up and I think the hardest part is always adjusting to the different personalities and finding ways to accommodate them.

Sabrina’s advice for new fosters is-

Don’t have any preconceived expectations for any animals and enjoy each one for who they are.

Shanan Ahmad

Shanan is a microbiologist who enjoys going to music festivals in her spare time. She has been fostering with us for two years and has fostered both dogs and cats.

On why she started fostering-  

I wanted to help shelter pets get adopted! You can’t adopt them all so hanging out with them for a while is the next best thing.

On how fostering has changed her life- 

It’s opened my eyes to how many compassionate people are around – at the SPCA of Texas, in the foster group, and the people who adopt! There are so many of us working hard to save animals that wouldn’t have had a chance otherwise.

Shanan’s advice for new fosters is-

Take lots of pictures! Their time with you goes by faster than you think. And don’t be afraid to ask questions, everyone at the SPCA of Texas is happy to help!
