This Volunteer Appreciation Week, the SPCA of Texas is thankful for our incredible Volunteers who selflessly dedicate their time and energy to helping animals in need as well as the people who love them. We can fulfill our mission thanks to the compassion and hard work of our volunteers!
In 2022, Volunteers contributed 30,330 service hours. We welcomed 837 new Volunteers in 2022 alone. All of our dedicated Volunteers spent over 6,642 hours (about 9 months) providing adoption counseling support, spent 5,002 hours (about 7 months) on adoption counseling for cats at our five PetSmart locations, fostered 1,344 animals, spent 392 service hours fostering, helped find homes for 353 pets at offsite mobile adoption events alone, spent over 829 hours (about 1 month 4 days) behind a computer screen, spent over 288 hours (about 1 week 5 days) helping local residents keep their pets in their homes through our Drive Thru Pet Food Pantries, did more than 14,600 loads of laundry and more.
We also want to highlight the contributions of a handful of our past Volunteers of the Month, to show the incredible work that these individuals have done to help animals in need.
Our January 2022 Volunteer of the Month, Jill Horvath, is a dedicated Volunteer who shared with us that her time at the SPCA of Texas has changed her life. Jill said, “I get back so much more than I give! Not only do I love the dogs and cats, but I also find myself in a total new mindset on anything animal related.” Through her work, Jill has helped countless animals find their forever homes and has made an enormous difference in the lives of the animals. Thank you, Jill, for giving your heart and your time to make the world a better place for animals!
Robyn Stevens was our March 2022 Volunteer of the Month. Robyn dedicates her time to helping our cat transport team and so much more. She shared with us that, “My favorite memories at the SPCA of Texas to date is being at the airport watching flights take off with SPCA of Texas transport kitties on ASPCA flights across the nation. It is so rewarding to see so many rescue kitties headed to other states with a waiting list of pre-approved adopters.” Thank you, Robyn, for your work to tirelessly help the community and kitties across North Texas and beyond.
Charlotte Vaughan was August’s Volunteer of the Month. Charlotte is a devoted Volunteer at the Ellis County Animal Care Center, and we are sincerely thankful for her dedication and her gifts of her time. From coming in to help with morning cleaning, helping with laundry, walks, as well as helping with mobile events, Charlotte is always ready to help. Charlotte, your critical work is appreciated!
Volunteers of the Month for September were Haley & Leah Aboussie Gaither. This fabulous mother/daughter duo have been volunteering with the SPCA of Texas for more than a year. In that time, they have overwhelmed us with their dedication and kindness, and work to make happily-ever-after matches between pets and people in their work as adoption counselors. We are profoundly grateful for this inspiring team.
These are just a few examples of the amazing work that our Volunteers of the Month have done to help animals in need. Each volunteer brings their unique skills and talents to the SPCA of Texas, and through their contributions, they have made a significant impact on the lives of animals. We are grateful to each one of our volunteers for their selfless dedication and commitment to our mission.
In closing, we want to extend our deepest thanks to all our volunteers for the time and energy they have dedicated to helping animals in need. We are constantly amazed by the incredible work that our volunteers do, and we are honored to have them as part of the SPCA of Texas community. Thank you for your contributions and for making a difference in the lives of animals.
