SPCA of Texas’ Volunteer Work Hours Put Almost $1M Toward Animal Welfare in FY2022
The SPCA of Texas is proud to celebrate more than 1,300 volunteers without whose dedication, innovative ideas and compassion we could not save the lives of or find loving homes for the animals we do. In 2022, 1,346 volunteers worked 30,330 hours which, if calculated at current market value, adds up to $908,383.50.
These fine individuals work in all facets of the organization and thanks to their generosity, in 2022:
“We are grateful every day for our dedicated volunteers who are the backbone of the SPCA of Texas and we’re proud to celebrate the time and talent they bring to our organization as we work to meet the critical needs of animals in north Texas,” said SPCA of Texas Vice President, People & Culture, Judith Dumont. “The passion of our volunteers inspires our employees to work harder to make the world a better place for the animals we serve. Our entire organization is proud to celebrate our unique volunteers not only during this special week but every week of the year.”
SPCA of Texas volunteers come from all walks of life including corporate groups, retired individuals, young professionals, moms, dads, single adult men and women, college students etc. They work side-by-side with SPCA of Texas staff—and their work is critical during special events or emergencies.
Aimee Early—who was named 2023 March Volunteer of the Month—was drawn to volunteer at SPCA of Texas because she admires “their dedication to the welfare of all animals in the state of Texas,” she said. Early is a volunteer foster, walks dogs and volunteers at Community Impact events for SPCA of Texas.
Early smiles when she thinks back on the first dog she fostered for SPCA of Texas—Cordelia. “She was rescued from a hoarding situation and did not like people at all,” Early said. “After a very hard first month of fostering her, I walked in the door one day and she started jumping up on me and kissing me for the very first time! That was one of the best feelings in the world and I will never forget that day.”
Early added that volunteering makes her feel wonderful. “The animals are so appreciative for all the walks and belly rubs. And, the public is grateful for the wonderful services we provide, such as the free pet food drives, which makes me happy to be a part of it all,” she noted.
