(DALLAS, TX); June 15, 2022 – The SPCA of Texas announces that the recipient of the 2022 Mary Spencer Award is Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN). THLN is the only Texas-based organization focused on addressing unjust state animal welfare laws and, importantly, the organization works to stop animal cruelty and abuse before it starts.
This award, named for animal advocate extraordinaire Mary Spencer, honors individuals and organizations that have made a significant difference in the lives of animals in North Texas. THLN’s indefatigable work on the state and local levels protects animals from cruelty and abuse. Recently, THLN has shepherded to victory two critical items: the Safe Outdoor Dogs Act on the state level, governing the restraint of outdoor dogs, and the Dallas Humane Pet Store Ordinance bans the sale of puppies and kittens in pet stores and prevents cruel breeding practices.
“THLN is a longtime partner of the SPCA of Texas and they work tirelessly for animals in the state of Texas to build better laws, and therefore safer communities, for animals and the people who love them,” said Karen Froehlich, SPCA of Texas President & CEO. “We are proud to partner with them and look forward to championing their future efforts to make our little piece of the world a better place for all.”
THLN will receive the award at the SPCA of Texas’ Paws Cause 2022. Paws Cause will be held on Tuesday, June 21 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Rustic in Dallas.
The event benefits the Southern Dallas Initiative and the Mary Spencer Spay/Neuter and Veterinary Care Clinic at Village Fair, and will take place on June 21, 2022, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Rustic in Dallas. For more information, and to buy tickets today, please visit www.pawscausedallas.com.
This casual, fun-filled evening is spearheaded by the SPCA of Texas’ Young Professionals and features wonderful food, libations, the Bone Appétit wine and restaurant gift card raffle and, of course, a chance to mingle with some furry friends.
Paws Cause 2022 will honor past event chairs who have worked so diligently over the last two and a half decades to make this event the tremendous success it has always been in assisting so many low-income pet owners with their pets’ needs.
Paws Cause 2022 is sure to be a tail-wagging success thanks to Chairs Whitney Eichinger, Whitney Keltch Green, and Sydnie Shimkus and the SPCA of Texas’ Young Professionals.
