The May 10 event is coordinated by Operation Kindness, Dallas Animal Services and the SPCA of Texas
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Carrollton, Texas) – As temperatures rise in Texas and spring weather enters the forecast, North Texas animal welfare organizations brace for kitten season. During this time of year with more daylight and warmer weather, cats are more likely to become pregnant with kittens, increasing the kitten population in the area and at local shelters.
To prepare for this time of year, local animal welfare organizations Operation Kindness, Dallas Animal Services (DAS) and the SPCA of Texas are partnering to host another Free Community Cat Fix Event at Dallas Animal Services headquarters at 1818 North Westmoreland Road in Dallas. The May 10 event is a continuation of the three organizations’ first event on April 12, which serviced 112 cats.
The event, funded by Dallas Animal Services, will be hosted at DAS in mobile units provided by the SPCA of Texas. Operation Kindness and DAS are providing veterinarians and vet techs for the event, making the goal of (stray cats that are not personal pets) in one day possible.
“We had such a great response from the community for our first Community Cat Fix Event, and it is our goal to help pets in the greatest need,” said Ed Jamison, CEO of Operation Kindness. “We’re committed to helping reduce pet overpopulation through high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter events that have a significant impact on the number of homeless pets. Collaborating with our partners at Dallas Animal Services and the SPCA of Texas means that we can continue to combine our resources to have an even greater impact.”
The event will provide free spay/neuter surgeries for 100 cats, with no limit on the number of cats each person can bring and all spots available on a first-come, first-served basis. Cats must be in a humane trap or hard-sided carrier, with one cat per trap or carrier. Check-in for cats begins at 7:00 A.M., with pickup at 3:30 P.M. Each cat will receive free spay/neuter surgery as well as a free microchip, ear tip and rabies vaccination.
“Dallas Animal Services is thrilled to host this event and improve the lives of community cats in Dallas through this partnership with Operation Kindness and SPCA of Texas,” said Paul Ramon, Director of Dallas Animal Services (interim). “We look forward to a brighter future for all animals in Dallas with the support of local partners.”
“The SPCA of Texas is proud to partner with Dallas Animal Services and Operation Kindness on this exciting event,” said Chris Luna, JD, President & CEO of the SPCA of Texas. “We are pleased to collaborate to serve the community cats of Dallas by loaning our two spay and neuter mobile vehicles. These vehicles will increase the number of surgeries performed on-site, ultimately making a greater impact on the welfare of community cats.”
