Unfortunately, many dogs suffer from allergies or other skin conditions. Even with medication, some dogs may benefit from some extra TLC for their skin and coat. One way you can do that is with an oatmeal bath!
First, fill a tub with some warm, but not too hot, water. Next, give 2 cups of oats a few quick pulses in the blender and then add to the water. Rub the mixture into your dog’s coat and let them soak for 5 to 10 minutes. After that, rinse your pup, towel dry them and then gently brush them while they are still damp to get rid of any leftover oatmeal bits.
But what if my pup won’t take a bath?
Of course, some dogs are completely opposed to the concept of bath time. Thankfully, a dry oatmeal bath can be just as effective. Do give your dog a dry oatmeal bath, warm some whole oats for a few minutes on a cookie sheet in the oven or in the microwave. Rub the oats into their coat, giving them a nice massage for several minutes to help loosen any grease or dirt that might be caught in their fur. Brush out their coat and you’re done!
