In 2022 YOU made dreams come true!

Although there were some “ruff” spots, we accomplished so much together. Thank you to all who support the SPCA of Texas for being so generous with your time and gifts to help animals and the people who love them.

In 2022, the SPCA of Texas positively impacted over 30,000 animals. This past year, we:

• Took in over 5,700 animals through cruelty investigation seizure, owner surrender and stray vulnerable animals.
• Investigated over 1,200 animal cruelty complaints.
• Found homes for more than 3,000 animals through onsite and offsite adoption.
• Transferred more than 2,000 animals to shelters across the country (1,600+ cats, 475 dogs).
• Foster volunteers cared for almost 1,700 animals.
• Provided over 67 tons of pet food to pet owners struggling to feed their pets as the economy worsened.
• Provided health care to more than 19,000 owned pets through vaccines, spay/neuter surgery, and wellness appointments.
• Increased our live release rate from 96% to 96.25% (being “no kill” is commonly accepted to be a live release rate of 90% or above).

Let’s look back at some of the highlights from the year, all made possible thanks to you.

• The year began with the reopening of our Myron K. Martin Spay/Neuter & Veterinary Clinic, offering low-cost pet wellness appointments. The Mary Spencer Spay/Neuter & Veterinary Care Clinic continued to offer wellness and spay or neuter appointments.
• The Safe Outdoor Dogs Act, a new law that helps curb animal cruelty by ensuring that every dog has access to adequate shelter and water, went into effect in early January.
• Our Animal Cruelty Investigations team wasted no time in the first month of 2022. They rescued 80 animals from one location in Hunt County, then made headlines with the seizure of 133 birds from a cockfighting operation.
• In February, the Ellis County Animal Care Center opened for adoptions and has since helped more than 160 animals find new and loving homes.
• In April, Strut Your Mutt returned in-person for the first time since 2019. And more than 1,100 attendees showed up to strut their stuff at Fair Park.
• In early May, Dallas City Council passed the Humane Pet Store Ordinance, effectively banning the sale of puppies and kittens in pet stores and preventing cruel breeding practices.
• The SPCA of Texas Young Professionals were a huge part of the success at Paws Cause in June.
• A canine distemper outbreak forced us to close to the public in June but our donors made it possible to keep caring for animals. In fact, we were able to build a temporary, air-conditioned intake tent and the rescue mission continued! So did our outreach to our amazing North Texas Community. We protected and tested all of our dogs and were able to reopen to the public on July 18! Animals like Sassy are so thankful you gave them a second chance.
• In August, we hosted a free pet vaccination clinic in partnership with the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office to help curb the spread of preventable diseases and illnesses in pets living in Ellis County. We also offered other vaccine clinics in 2022.
• The Southern Dallas Initiative Spay/Neuter Program wound down this year after six years of changing lives and providing a safer community for the 23 zip codes in Southern Dallas. Our biggest successes in this initiative have been the more than 115,000 households that we reached via outreach, completing almost 46,000 spay or neuter surgeries (including vaccinations and microchipping), becoming a “veterinary home” for our community, and building relationships with human service organizations in the community.
• We LOVED partying with all our friends and supporters at Fur Ball 2022 on the first day of October!
• As inflation began to affect us all, the Russell H. Perry Pet Resource Center was hard at work hosting drive-thru pet pantries to distribute pet food and other resources to families and their pets. More than 67 TONS of pet food was distributed and over 3,800 families got the help they needed to keep their furry family members safe at home.
• In November, we welcomed Dogs Playing for Life® to our SPCA of Texas’ Dallas Animal Care Center to enhance the quality of life of shelter dogs to increase lifesaving.
• At the 32^nd annual Home for the Holidays event at NorthPark Center, 200 pets were adopted into new and loving homes and 22 luxury dog houses and cat condos were auctioned off to benefit the animals.
• At end the 2022, we installed a pet space at the Austin Street Center to help our unhoused community members get off the streets with their pets during the frigid holiday weather.

THANK YOU for another incredible year where dreams came true for more than 3,000 animals who found their forever homes and more than 2,000 were transferred to shelters across the country.
