In 2018, the SPCA of Texas’ Animal Cruelty Investigations unit rescued a brown senior pitbull with a sad face and a sweet heart. Over time, his scars healed and his smile bloomed, charming every person he met. It was hard not to fall for a dog with so much love to give.
After a series of foster homes and 7 months under our care, Toupee found his forever home with his foster mom, Melinda. We are so thankful to her for giving him the absolute best life he could have wished for!
Sadly, our beloved Toupee recently passed away from cancer, but not before leaving a lasting impact on his mom. She knew that when she was ready- her next dog would be a senior pittie.
Enthusiastically loving, Ricky was yet another staff favorite that was continually overlooked. This senior pup, who was rescued from a suspected dog fighting operation, charmed the staff but for some reason had a hard time finding a forever home.
That is, until Melinda laid eyes on him. She saw his grey muzzle and soulful eyes, and knew that it was meant to be! She reached out to the foster department to see Ricky would be a good fit. Of course, we were thrilled that Melinda once again wanted to adopt a senior, long-term resident pittie.
We are so grateful to Ricky’s foster mom, Kasayla, for helping Ricky put his best paw forward! Fostering saves lives in so many ways, and we feel that this story is a true representation of the impact of fostering and that every foster fail is really a foster win!
