If any dogs test positive for Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) at the shelter, we are immediately isolating them at our medical teams counsel and attempting to get them into a foster home. Since distemper positive dogs can shed the virus to other dogs for up to 3 months, they need to be isolated for that entire period or they pose a risk to other dogs at the shelter.

Today’s featured pet from the SPCA of Texas is AnaLucia! This 7-pound, 7-year-old domestic shorthair cat has hazelnut eyes and a beautiful smoky grey coat. AnaLucia was rescued from a bad situation and she is looking to put her past behind her. She’s looking for a quiet home where she can be the queen of your castle. AnaLucia is a sweet kitty but easily startled and upset due to her past, so she’s hoping to find a home with kids 12 and up. She used to live with way too many other kitties, so she is eager to start her life as an only cat so she can finally get the attention she deserves. She loves getting pets and is moderately interested in toys. AnaLucia had a number of dental issues that our veterinarians have treated her for, and she will need to be on soft food and treats for life. We can tell you she’s hardly upset about her canned food diet! AnaLucia is spayed and up-to-date on all vaccinations. To request a meet-and-greet with AnaLucia, please fill out the form at spca.org/catadopt.
