A Brief History of Home for the Holidays and Bark & Build

Since 1990, the SPCA of Texas has been bringing adoptable animals to NorthPark Center to adopt them into wonderful new homes. This partnership with the luxury shopping establishment began when Billy Hines, General Manager for NorthPark Center, approached the SPCA of Texas with the idea of having a permanent adoption pavilion on site during the holiday season. Nearly 30 years later, more than 10,000 homeless pets have found their forever homes at the Home for the Holidays Adoption Pavilion.

Home for the Holidays was further enhanced with the addition of the Bark & Build five years ago. AIA Dallas and TEXO, The Construction Association have brought architects and contractors together to create custom dog houses, doggy décor and cat condos to auction off to support the SPCA of Texas. This friendly competition fosters camaraderie among the industry leaders in Dallas while bringing even more awareness to the issue of pet homelessness in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

Bark & Build has raised over $300,000 for the SPCA of Texas in the past five years. We’re so grateful to have such amazing and generous partners who are doing so much to give back to our community.

The Home for the Holidays Adoption Pavilion at NorthPark Center will be open from November 29 through December 23.
