If any dogs test positive for Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) at the shelter, we are immediately isolating them at our medical teams counsel and attempting to get them into a foster home. Since distemper positive dogs can shed the virus to other dogs for up to 3 months, they need to be isolated for that entire period or they pose a risk to other dogs at the shelter.

The SPCA of Texas and Spay Neuter Network were proud to once again host a FREE spay/neuter event for pet owners who reside in 23 zip codes in Southern Dallas on October 26th and 27th. As part of the Southern Dallas Pet Initiative, our two organizations were able to provide surgeries free of charge for more than 470 pets! Along with the surgery, each pet was given their annual vaccinations and a microchip, free of charge.
Thanks to your continued support, we are able to provide this important service to our community. We hope that our efforts will help reduce the stray dog population and keep owned pets safe and healthy.
Do you know someone who lives in one of our 23 grant-sponsored zip codes and could benefit from these free services? Let them know that they can call 214-742-7722 or visit spca.org/freefix to schedule their appointment today. Our Community Pet Program offers free transport services and our mobile spay/neuter vehicles visit convenient locations all around Southern Dallas during the week.
