The Rescue Partner Network connects SPCA of Texas pets to rescues and private organizations all across the country.
Our rescue partners find forever homes and, when necessary, provide medical and behavioral intervention. Staff and volunteers work together to network dogs, cats and specialty pets with transfer and transport programs across the nation and coordinate their transfer and travel arrangements. Rescue transfers are crucial to our lifesaving efforts. In 2020, 393 pets were transferred to our partner network. In 2021, more than 900 pets will be finding their forever families through transfer partners.
When the SPCA of Texas takes in dozens of animals at a time from a disaster, hoarding case or other large-scale situation, animals can receive individual care more quickly when they can be distributed to multiple groups.
The SPCA of Texas often intervenes in puppy mill or breeding operations, taking in dozens of dogs from specialty breeds at the same time, often many very young and middle-aged dogs. Breed-specific rescue organizations often have deep understanding of the needs of specific breeds and have long waiting lists of individuals looking to adopt who understand those specific needs.
Just as there are rescue organizations that specialize in particular breeds, there are organizations who specialize in specific medical needs. We value these partnerships and the highly specialized care they can provide.
Because we are always operating at or near capacity, any animal that is able to find a place with one of our rescue partners means we are able to help another animal in need!
