“For many veterans, animals are far more than companions—they are lifelines,” said SPCA of Texas Sr. Director of Lifesaving Operations Sarah Sheek. “They offer unconditional love, connection and new opportunities to connect and grow. Whether it’s a service dog trained to provide emotional support or a shelter pet providing daily companionship, no veteran should ever face life alone.
“The SPCA of Texas is proud to honor our veterans and active-duty military by giving them the opportunity to find their perfect furry companion. By adopting a shelter pet, veterans are saving two lives, the life of the pet they bring home and the life of the animal who takes its place in our shelter.”
Starting fresh in the civilian world can come with big changes, and the companionship of a shelter pet can provide comfort, structure, and a renewed sense of mission. Rescuing a pet from an animal shelter can help to fulfill that call to duty. There are thousands of loving animals in need at shelters around North Texas; hundreds at the SPCA of Texas.
When veterans consider adding a pet to their family, it can be rewarding to adopt their new friend from an animal rescue or shelter. For veterans who want to assist animals in other ways, they can volunteer or foster pets in need.
Throughout the year, as a partner with Pets for Patriots, the SPCA of Texas offers half-price adoptions of adult dogs and adult cats to all veterans every day for individuals who qualify through Pets for Patriots. A 20% discount on adult pet adoptions is offered to veterans who are not affiliated with Pets for Patriots every day, as well.
