Transported to North Texas by Wings of Hope, these 50 dogs were adoptable prior to the devastating flood.
(DALLAS, TX); July 9, 2025—The SPCA of Texas is stepping up to assist Hill Country shelters in the wake of a devastating crisis, demonstrating our commitment to compassion and in partnership with Wings of Rescue, Austin Pets Alive!, and Best Friends Animal Society. On Wednesday and Thursday, July 8 and 9, we will welcome 50 dogs from animal shelters located in the Texas Hill Country as part of a collaborative effort to create critical space for animals displaced by the natural disaster.
“Our hearts are broken for all the victims of the recent flooding. We mourn the loss of both people and animals, and we hold tightly to the ways we show up for one another,” said SPCA of Texas Sr. Vice President & Chief Operating Officer MeLissa Webber. “At the SPCA of Texas, we believe that as a community, we rise up to help in times of crisis. This effort reflects the heart of what we do: leading with compassion and stepping up when it matters most.”
The SPCA of Texas is receiving 50 dogs transported from the Hill Country over the next two days. These are dogs that were already adoptable at Hill Country shelters. Relocating these available pups creates critical space for shelters in the affected areas to care for pets affected by the disaster and prioritize reuniting them with their families.
When the dogs arrive at the SPCA of Texas Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center, each one will be evaluated, microchipped and spayed or neutered, if needed.
“Some of the incoming dogs might be slated for transport to the Northeast, where many more adoptive homes are available” Webber said. “We are putting out a call for adopters for pets already in shelters across North Texas and for the incoming pets who are not slated for transport to the Northeast.”
Anyone interested in adopting one of our Hill Country dogs can visit us at the SPCA of Texas Dallas Animal Care Center (2400 Lone Star Drive, 75212). We are open from Noon to 6 p.m. every day of the week.

About Wings of Rescue
Wings of Rescue is a donation-supported 501(c)3 public charity that flies abandoned, homeless and at-risk pets from overcrowded shelters and disaster areas to shelters with available space without displacing any locally sheltered pets. The result is that great pets in need of loving homes are brought to welcoming locations where families are eagerly waiting to adopt them. At Wings of Rescue we strive to transport pets to their new homes safely, quickly and with as little stress as possible.
In times of natural disaster we often use our in-bound planes to deliver humanitarian and veterinarian aid, pet supplies and shelter materials, thereby making the most efficient use of each of our flights.
From our unique perspective traveling across North America we know that spay-and-neuter programs are key to reducing the number of unwanted pets flooding municipal shelters. For this reason we sponsor spay/neuter programs to make a difference.
Our core philosophies are that all pets deserve a healthy and loving home and that responsible pet ownership enriches lives and builds stronger and more compassionate communities.
About Austin Pets Alive!
We pioneer comprehensive, innovative programs designed to save the animals most at risk for euthanasia. Our mission is to promote and provide the resources, education, and programs needed to eliminate the killing of companion animals. Our vision is that every shelter animal, in Central Texas and beyond, gets a true chance at the life they deserve.
About Best Friends Animal Society
Best Friends Animal Society is the largest sanctuary of its kind in the U.S. Best Friends has become the heart of a collaborative no-kill movement, and a model for the future of animal welfare. Today, because of rescues and shelters around the country, we will bring the entire nation to no-kill in 2025.
