Grant to Help Provide Physical and Behavioral Health Care and to Enhance Pet Transports to Other Shelters/Rescues to Create Successful Adoptions
(DALLAS,TX); July 8, 2025—The SPCA of Texas is excited to announce that it has received a generous grant in the amount of $175,000 from The Dallas Foundation over the next 12 months to help support the in-shelter animal care program, which ensures every pet receives essential medical treatment, spay/neuter surgery, and behavioral rehabilitation, all of which are key steps toward successful adoption.
Funds also will support the SPCA of Texas Transport Program, which sends cats and dogs to other states that need available pets. Monies received also will fund the SPCA of Texas’ projects that help create a healthier future for both animals and the Dallas community. The award is funded through The Dallas Foundation’s Field of Interest Funds.
“The SPCA of Texas provides wellness visits, lifesaving programs, and shelter care for more than 34,000 animals annually. Every animal that comes into our shelter undergoes a health check, is treated for any injuries or illnesses, is spayed or neutered, and is microchipped,” said SPCA of Texas President & CEO Chris Luna, JD. “This contributes to a healthy community by helping eliminate the spread of preventable diseases in pets living in North Texas and lowers the number of pets that roam our streets.
“We are extremely grateful to The C. Albert Tatum III Fund and to The Louis B. and Mary Ratliff Animal Welfare Fund at The Dallas Foundation for their vision to help advance the welfare of vulnerable animals in North Texas.”
The SPCA of Texas works to help families of all sizes keep their beloved pets in their homes. In 2024, the organization’s Community Impact Program provided 192,000 pounds of food to pet owners in need. The SPCA of Texas also collaborated with numerous other North Texas shelters and rescues to provide food and wellness services to more than 2,000 pets from the region through quarterly CUDDLY Pets Are Family events.
