When we talk about the impact of donor support, few stories capture it more powerfully than the one shared by SPCA of Texas Board Member and longtime supporter, Randy Pruett. Randy’s dedication to the mission goes far beyond board meetings or fundraising—it lives in the heart of a dog named Buddy Bear.
Earlier this year, the SPCA of Texas rescued 16 dogs from unthinkable neglect in rural North Texas—animals left padlocked in filthy cages, surrounded by maggots, without clean water, food, or shelter. Among them was a frightened, matted, severely neglected three-year-old pup who had known nothing but suffering. The only water he had access to was green and contaminated. But the moment Buddy Bear was brought to safety, Randy knew this dog’s story didn’t have to end in pain.
“Did I need a third dog? No,” Randy shared. “Did Buddy Bear need love, care, and a second chance? Absolutely.” That simple truth—seeing a life that needed hope—is the heart of why he gives, volunteers, and proudly serves on the SPCA of Texas Board of Directors.
Today, Buddy Bear is unrecognizable from the dog found in that cage. He is neutered, healthy, and finally living the joyful life he deserved all along. He spends his days playing with his two rescued brothers—15-year-old Yorkie Simon and 11-year-old Westie Murphy—and soaking up every ounce of love he missed in his early years.
Randy’s story reminds us of something profound: your support transforms suffering into hope. Every donation, every volunteer hour, every act of compassion helps save animals like Buddy Bear and gives them the chance to know love for the first time.
Thank you for standing with us—and for standing up for the animals who cannot speak for themselves. Join in the support and become a SPCA of Texas donor today!
