Your generosity helped Donner heal, build confidence, and find a family who cheers him on.
When you support the SPCA of Texas, you are the heart of our mission. You make it possible for pets like Donner to arrive safely, receive excellent care, and meet the people who will love them.
Donner came to us as a stray. In his first days at the shelter, he crouched low on his bed, head down and tail tucked, unsure of what would come next. Because of you, his experience was calm and compassionate. Our medical team neutered him and made sure he was healthy. Our behavior team, staff, and volunteers worked with him patiently. Walk by walk and treat by treat, Donner started to believe that people were there to help.
Four months later, he met his match.
Alexis, an SPCA of Texas donor and adopter, shared this update:
“Donner is having all kinds of fun new adventures with us. We recently hiked a mile-long trail to Grapevine Lake. We thought a nice hike to the water would be fun. Donner started acting a little off and we realized his paw pads were getting hot on the sand. We gave him water, moved to the shade, and I carried him until we reached a longer shaded trail. All was better from there. Needless to say, I bought him doggie shoes as soon as we got back home. He’s gotten bigger since I adopted him and carrying him is not a regular option!”
Back at home, Donner has settled in beautifully.
He has a pack of friends at Camp Bow Wow, both human and canine.
He’s friendly with new people and animals and even tries to play with the neighbor’s farm crew of sheep, chickens, ducks, and geese.
He is helping Alexis become more of a morning person by turning in early and waking up ready to go.
His confidence has bloomed. He now alerts to strangers walking by, including neighbors who ride past on horseback.
Most of all, he has acclimated well to his home and family and loves being part of the routine.
Your generosity funded the care and time that helped Donner shine.
Health and comfort. Exams, vaccinations, neuter surgery, and a clean, quiet space.
Behavior support. Gentle handling, enrichment, and patient practice to build trust.
Visibility. Photos, bio, and conversations that helped the right family find him.
A thoughtful match. Staff who listened, answered questions, and guided adoption day with care.
Hot surfaces like sand and pavement can burn paws, especially in warm weather. Choose early morning or evening walks, stick to shaded or grassy routes, and consider dog boots or paw protection on sunny days.
Donner is one story among many. Your gift keeps the kennels clean, the lights on, the surgeries funded, and the caring hands at the ready.
