Dr. Tynes is a Shelter Veterinary Behaviorist for the SPCA of Texas and serves as our Interim Chief Veterinarian. Her role involves leading our behavior team in helping pets succeed in homes, including in-shelter animal enrichment, training, and treatment, as well as providing support for foster families and potential adopters. Dr. Tynes is one of less than 10 veterinarians in the United States who is board certified in both Animal Welfare and Animal Behavior. Dr. Tynes received her DVM from Texas A&M University and worked in private practice for 14 years before pursuing a residency in clinical animal behavior at the University of California at Davis. She has been a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists since 2003 and has been board certified by the American College of Animal Welfare since 2018. Dr. Tynes is a frequent speaker at conferences and professional meetings. She has authored numerous articles and chapters on a variety of behavior-related topics. Dr. Tynes is the editor of Feline Behavior and Welfare and the editor of Behavior of Exotic Pets.
