(DALLAS, TX); August 31, 2020 – The SPCA of Texas is excited to share some super news! Throughout the month of September, the SPCA of Texas will be offering a Super Senior September adoption special. From September 1 to September 30, senior pets (7 years and older) will only be $30 to adopt! In addition, senior people (65 years and older) can adopt a senior pet for free as part of the ongoing Seniors for Seniors special. This special will be offered at two of the SPCA of Texas’ adoption facilities, including the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas and the Russell H. Perry Animal Care Center in McKinney.
Historically, the SPCA of Texas has found that senior pets stay in shelter care longer and are often overlooked by potential adopters in comparison to younger pets. Many senior pets prefer a calm, quiet home and less frenetic lifestyle, making them a great match for senior people who are looking for a loving, perhaps less energetic, companion animal to share their golden years with. However, not all senior pets act their age – many older pets still have plenty of energy, pep in their step and love to play, so even families with children can enjoy the love a senior pet has to give.
Adoptions will be available by appointment. Adopters will need to submit an adoption inquiry form in order to begin the adoption process and schedule an appointment to meet the animal of their choice. Please browse our available animals at spca.org/findapet and visit spca.org/dogadopt to inquire about a dog or spca.org/catadopt to inquire about a cat.
Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.
