Siena is a beautiful 3-year-old girl who came to us as a stray and is now struggling with the stress of the kennel environment. While she has so much to offer, the shelter setting has become overwhelming for her, and she urgently needs a calm, supportive foster home to help her decompress and feel safe again. Siena has shown signs of high kennel stress and has started showing signs of overstimulation. She has also begun displaying increased reactivity toward other dogs when exiting her kennel, and staff have adjusted her walking routes to reduce triggers and set her up for success. Despite this, she continues to do very well in playgroup, where her true personality shines. In appropriate settings, Siena shows lovely dog social skills. At the fence, she greets with a play bow, wagging tail, loose body, and enthusiasm. In the yard, she is tolerant of greetings, engages appropriately in play, greets on her own terms, and maintains a loose, relaxed body. These moments show us who Siena really is when she feels safe and understood. Siena is becoming leash reactive due to ongoing stress, but she does well for medical handling and benefits greatly from routine and structure. Siena is not a “bad” dog—she is a sensitive one who is telling us she is overwhelmed. With a quiet home, consistency, and compassion, Siena has the potential to settle, relax, and thrive. She urgently needs a foster who can give her the chance to feel safe, decompress, and be seen for the wonderful dog she is.
