At the SPCA of Texas, our incredible team of volunteers who dedicate their time, enthusiasm, and passion to helping animals in need, are all shining stars in their own right. This December, we are thrilled to recognize Eva Salinas as our Volunteer of the Month! Since joining us on February 17, 2024, Eva has demonstrated outstanding dedication, kindness, and initiative in every aspect of her volunteer work. She’s a real rock star!
Eva’s commitment to the welfare of our animals is nothing short of inspiring. With more than 400 hours of volunteer service in less than a year, she has proven to be a reliable and compassionate member of our team. Whether assisting with adoptions, running dogs for playgroups, or ensuring our enrichment programs run smoothly, Eva goes above and beyond in every task.
The SPCA of Texas team has nothing but glowing praise for Eva.
“Eva has been a constant support in every aspect of the organization, dedicating every free hour she has to help our animals. In 2024, Eva donated more than 400 hours toward supporting our mission. She has leveled up through every training available to her, completing orange dog training within a week of her 18th birthday! Eva is always willing to help wherever help is needed most, whether it’s running dogs for playgroups, building and passing out enrichment, untangling aprons in the volunteer office, or cleaning and organizing the enrichment room. Eva’s teamwork and commitment to our animals is evident in everything she does. Eva is a rockstar!”
Another team member shared, “Eva always goes above and beyond—asking what else she can do to help or if there are any special projects! She is extremely knowledgeable and helpful with the adoption team!”
Eva’s journey as a volunteer has been defined by her deep compassion for animals and her willingness to step in wherever she is needed. She has undergone extensive training, mastering all three levels of dog handling, cat care, and even adoption counseling. Eva’s expertise allows her to support our animals in multiple capacities, from providing daily care to guiding potential adopters toward finding their perfect pet.
“Eva truly embodies the heart of the SPCA of Texas through her dedication to the welfare of our animals,” a fellow volunteer said. “Her efforts play a crucial role in ensuring our animals are happy and comfortable while awaiting their new families.”
When asked about her experiences, Eva shared some of her favorite moments and insights from her time volunteering at the SPCA of Texas.
What’s your favorite memory at the SPCA of Texas?
“My favorite memory at the SPCA of Texas has to be making and passing out enrichment. It’s a great way to keep the animals engaged and happy while they wait for their loving homes.”
What do you want people to know about Huck*, the animal you chose to feature?
“What I want people to know about Huck is how sweet and loving he is. He’s perfect for someone looking for a calm companion. My favorite thing about him is when he knows you have treats—he just follows you around and sits beside you until you give him some!”
How does volunteering make you feel?
“There are honestly no words that explain my love for it. I feel happy and excited to be with animals in my free time and seeing them go to their loving homes. Hanging out with other staff and animals really helps when needed.”
What drew you to the SPCA of Texas?
“My love for animals drew me to the SPCA of Texas. The chance to help animals that need love and care is super rewarding. Knowing that I’m making a difference in their lives keeps me going. Plus, being around all those furry friends is a bonus!”
What is something you wish people knew about volunteering at the SPCA of Texas?
“One thing I wish people knew about volunteering at the SPCA of Texas is how much of a difference even a small amount of time can make. Every bit of help—whether it’s walking dogs, socializing cats, or assisting with events—contributes to the well-being of the animals and helps them find their loving homes faster. Plus, it’s incredibly rewarding to see the positive impact you can have on their lives!”
What impact have you witnessed in the lives of animals (and people) because of your volunteer work?
“The impact I have witnessed is how love and care can truly change an animal’s life. Seeing them find homes is so rewarding. Plus, helping people connect with these animals brings so much joy to their lives, too!”
Eva’s dedication, passion, and hard work make her a devoted member of the SPCA of Texas family. She is a shining example of the difference one person can make in the lives of animals and the community. Her commitment to providing love, care, and enrichment to our shelter animals is something we deeply appreciate.
