Keep in mind, just like any purebred dog, greyhounds have characteristics unique to their breed that you will have to consider. More importantly, former racing greyhounds often have some health and behavioral obstacles that you will have to work through as a new owner. It’s important to do your research before adopting. At the SPCA of Texas, our passion is rescuing animals and we think they make the best pets. At the same time, we always encourage adopters to fully consider how a pet would fit into their lives and what level of effort and patience they are willing to put into easing the pet into life in a loving home.

You don’t have to wait to adopt a greyhound. There are several greyhound rescues in Texas that have greyhounds currently searching for their forever homes! Many of these rescues require an adoption application and/or a home visit. Breed-specific rescues are very passionate about finding their animals the best home possible, so be ready for an in-depth adoption process.
