If any dogs test positive for Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) at the shelter, we are immediately isolating them at our medical teams counsel and attempting to get them into a foster home. Since distemper positive dogs can shed the virus to other dogs for up to 3 months, they need to be isolated for that entire period or they pose a risk to other dogs at the shelter.

It truly takes a village! When Spay Neuter Network heard about this case through Dallas Animal Services, they reached out to our partners at Duck Team 6. Chloe is a 7-year-old happy girl that recently developed a bad habit of jumping over the fence. Her parents did not want to tie her up and had tried to make some alterations to their fence, however Chloe continued to escape.
Her owners absolutely love her but they were at their wits’ end. Chloe had gotten her self into some trouble with DAS a few times and was set to be surrendered. Building the usual six-foot dog run would not work for this escape artist!
Mark Romick with Duck Team 6 came up with a much better idea. He reached out to the SPCA of Texas and through the FUNDERS Grant, they purchased this Houdini-Proof Dog Fence Extension System Kit.
They immediately got to work. This is our first anti-jump fence we built and we’re excited to have helped keep Chloe right where she belongs, at home with her family. We’re so thankful to have opportunities like this to help keep families together and pets out of shelters!
