Many of the dogs and cats in our care come from places where they suffered from cruelty and neglect, and we spare no effort in giving them a second chance at a happy life. Our staff is transparent about each pet, where they came from, what we know about them, and what we don’t know so that you can feel confident when making your decision to adopt.
We make behavioral recommendations for animals, and in some cases, require specific home characteristics due to our commitment to ensure the happiness and safety of our adoptive families and our adoptable pets. Some of our pets may require additional medical support throughout their lives, and we aim to ensure families know everything they need to know before they adopt.

SPCA of Texas creates a second chance at life for horses and livestock that have been neglected, abused or surrendered. Our adoption specialists will help pair you with an animal to create a bond that will last a lifetime.
Every animal in our care is assessed medically as well as behaviorally. For our equine companions, this also includes a training assessment that assesses each horse’s experience level so they can be paired with an owner whose skill levels match theirs.
Many of the horses and other livestock in our care come from places where they suffered from cruelty and neglect, and we spare no effort in giving them a second chance at a happy life. Our staff is transparent about each animal, where they came from, what we know about them, and what we don’t know so that you can feel confident when making your decision to adopt.
After completing an application in our Find A Pet portal, our team will email to schedule an appointment to meet the animal(s) you want to meet in person. We offer adopters the chance to ride any horse they are interested in as well. Animals are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Once paired with their animal, we schedule pick-up or drop-off. Drop-offs are $50 per hour.
Fees range from $300 up to $1,000 depending on the animal’s age, training level and overall health. A delivery of your adopted animal at your location can be scheduled for $50/hour.

From time to time, our Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit will rescue small mammals like rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs and more. Adoption fees and included services and items vary based on the type of animal type. But every small animal is a big opportunity to open your heart to a special friend.
Some cats are not interested in being pets but make great workers, keeping pests away from your business, barn or residence. Through our Working Cats program, you can provide a home to a cat who will in turn literally keep the mice away. There’s no adoption fee, and all you have to do is provide food, water and shelter.
The SPCA of Texas completes rigorous medical and behavioral testing on every animal in our care. The organization fully discloses all known medical and/or behavioral conditions, including any incidents of biting or violent behavior toward a human, to all adopters and fosters.
Despite the rigorous testing our veterinary and behavioral professionals conduct throughout every animal’s stay in our facilities, other new and/or unknown medical and/or behavioral conditions may manifest in any animal at any time.
By adopting or fostering an animal from the SPCA of Texas, adopters and fosters acknowledge at the time of adoption or fostering that they may receive an animal with an undetected medical and/or behavioral condition and/or that a new medical and/or behavioral condition may appear at any time in the future. Any pet adopted from the SPCA of Texas can be returned to us at any time for any reason at no cost.
