Our First Graduate!

Congrats, grad! Jalisco poses with his certificate. |
Jalisco came to the SPCA of Texas through an animal cruelty case. Frightened, stressed and suspicious of humans, Jalisco was an ideal candidate to be the first dog to take part in our brand new Behavior Rehabilitation Program. With the careful, consistent implementation of training protocols specifically designed to reduce fear and stress, our behavior specialists were able to make slow and steady progress in getting Jalisco to accept humans.

This little pup is very proud of his progress! |
The Behavior Rehabilitation Program was created through research done at the ASPCA’s Learning Lab, where behavior specialists work with shy and fearful dogs to help them reach the point where they are able to find their forever homes. The ASPCA, which is a separate entity from the SPCA of Texas, chose us as their first partner to implement the program outside of the ASPCA.
Today, Jalisco still has quite a way to go on his journey to live a stress-free, happy life. He’s much more inclined to show his playful side and even solicits affection from his human friends. While he waits to find his forever family, volunteers and staff will continue to work on building Jalisco’s ability to trust humans. He’ll need a patient adopter to help him with potty training – just like a puppy, Jalisco hasn’t had the opportunity to learn yet!
