The moment you see a group of tiny, mewling kittens, your first instinct might be to scoop them up and take them to a shelter. Their mom abandoned them, right? They won’t survive if you don’t rescue them, right?
Actually, the chances are that mama cat is probably just out hunting for food. She has to eat, too!
If you see kittens that seem abandoned, just keep an eye on them (from a distance so you don’t scare mama cat off) to see if the mother comes back.
If mama cat doesn’t come back, we think that you would be an excellent foster parent! You took the time out of your day and stressed about these sweet little fluff balls, so we know you truly care!
Fostering kittens might sound daunting, but we have all the resources to help you. You provide the space – a small bathroom, laundry room or closet is perfect – and we provide the rest! Shelters are always low on space and often don’t have overnight staff, so we heavily rely on fosters to care for animals outside of the shelter during kitten season.
We’ll give you all the supplies you need and show you how to care for the kittens. If you find a litter of abandoned kittens, call us at 214-742-7722 and we’ll get you set up with everything you need to be the best kitten foster parent ever!
For more information on fostering kittens, we encourage you to come to the Community Wide Kitten Shower! We are hosting this event at our locations in west Dallas and McKinney to show people how to bottle feed kittens. If either of our locations aren’t near you, there are several other organizations participating across north Texas.
