Every animal who enters the SPCA of Texas has a story, and Leia’s began in the summer of 2025. Surrendered by her previous owner, she arrived as a healthy young girl, wide-eyed and unsure of her new surroundings. Like many pets experiencing shelter life for the first time, Leia needed time to adjust. The noises, the routines, and the unfamiliar faces left her feeling overwhelmed. But with patience, gentle care, and the steady support of our team, she slowly began to find her footing.
As the days passed, Leia blossomed. She discovered that playgroups weren’t so scary after all, and other dogs helped coax out her playful, social side. Staff and volunteers became her friends, offering reassurance, enrichment, and affection that helped her feel safe. Her personality began to shine through—curious, sweet, and full of potential. And thanks to the support of our community, everything she needed during that transition was right here waiting for her.
Leia’s stay with us was short, and before long she caught the eye of a family who saw just how special she was. Today, she’s known by a new name—Onyx—and she’s living the life every pet deserves. Her family shares: “Leia is now Onyx. She is a feisty but lovable kitten. She has made friends with her big fur dog siblings. She loves her human child and mom. She enjoys anything with a bell on it and gives goodnight head bumps or nose bumps every night before she settles down at the foot of my bed. She is the perfect addition to our family.”
Stories like Onyx’s are only possible because of your generosity. Your support ensures pets in transition receive compassion, care, and a real chance at the happy endings they deserve. Thank you for helping us continue this life-changing work.
There are still many animals at the SPCA of Texas waiting for their own happy ending. Help more animals like Leia by adopting, fostering, or making a donation to the SPCA of Texas today. Visit spca.org to learn more! 🐾❤️
