When a foster parent decides to adopt their foster pet, it’s commonly referred to as a “foster fail.” Well, we really want to get that name changed because we see it as a win! One of our most recent wins is George, who spent more than six months in his foster home learning to cope with his anxiety. He was just adopted by his foster mom!
“7 months ago, I lost my best friend and soul dog, Sofie. I didn’t think my heart was capable of love like that again. After a month of intense mourning, the silence in my house was too much, so I reached out to the SPCA of Texas and asked to foster whatever dog they felt needed it the most. That’s when I was introduced to George. He had been seized by the SPCA of Texas six months earlier, and because of the situation he came from, he had crippling anxiety and was deteriorating in the shelter environment. It’s been quite a journey with George these past six months. We’ve had lots of breakthroughs; he plays with toys now, he asks for cuddles, he can hear dogs from a distance without going into a panic. And more than that, George broke through my grief and helped me smile, laugh, and love again.
But George has a long road to true peace still, and I’ve made the commitment to him to work with him for however long it takes to get him there. I’m sad that I will not be able to foster for a while due to his dog anxiety, but I’m thrilled to add this incredibly loving and goofy boy officially into my family.
Thank you to the SPCA of Texas for saving him, bringing him into my life, and all of the help along the way. George will know nothing except home, peace, and love for the rest of his life and that’s thanks to you.
