Ever wonder how the Strut Your Mutt 5k or our Fur Ball gala come together? Easy answer – we wave a magic wand! Just kidding – major events like these are the work of our Special Events Manager, Jan Scoggins. She oversees all of the planning and logistics for our four signature events, which take a LOT of preparation. We asked Jan a few questions about herself!

I have worked in special events for nonprofits here in the D/FW area since 1988 and I always said my dream job would be to work for the SPCA of Texas. So when a job in my field opened up at the SPCA of Texas, I jumped at the chance . Now I’ve been here six and a half years, raising funds for the best cause: our animals.

I am super proud of my daughter Jenna who interned here at the SPCA of Texas and is now a freshman at Texas A&M studying to become a veterinarian. Thanks to Dr. Redd for giving her some great advice along the way!

What is the best thing about working at the SPCA of Texas?

The very best thing is the honor and privilege I have of working with outstanding event volunteers, who have the biggest hearts and offer their most precious gift of all – their time.

What is your favorite story of an animal you helped/cared for?

I office fostered Momo for a few afternoons and fell in love with the little angel. One afternoon, I went to play with her and she had been adopted. I was sad she was gone, but I was so happy she found her forever home!

What are your passions/hobbies/interests?

I love movies, books, my family and of course my dog, who I affectionately call Taco The Wonder Dog. My passion…pickles! I eat one every day. My coworker Cynthia Blackfox even made me a pickle cake for my birthday one year!
