A Cat Named Bruce
Today we want to share the story of Bruce! Early this April, his family noticed that Bruce, who is normally very chatty and social, suddenly became lethargic and quiet. Recognizing that a sudden change in behavior can mean a serious medical problem, Bruce’s mom rushed him to a veterinarian. She spent hours worrying about their beloved kitty. After many tests at the CityVet Preston Forest location in Dallas, the veterinarian diagnosed Bruce with pancreatitis with a suspected secondary hepatic lipidosis. Bruce required fluids, surgery, medicine and even a feeding tube.
As you might guess, Bruce’s vet bills started to add up. Thankfully, Bruce’s family found out about the SPCA of Texas’ Pet Resource Center, which can help provide financial support for veterinary expenses. Our Pet Resource Center staff helped cover some of the cost of Bruce’s care, and followed up frequently to check on Bruce’s progress. All of us at the SPCA of Texas know how scary and stressful it is when our beloved pets are having health problems. We consider it an honor and a privilege to be able to help relieve some of the burden with our grant-funded Pet Resource Center.
Bruce is doing so much better now! He slowly started eating on his own, and then one night ripped out his feeding tube – his appetite was finally back, so he decided he didn’t need it anymore! While his mom and the vet sure wish Bruce had waited until his appointment, they’re thrilled that he is feeling like his old self again. Bruce is back to playing with his kitty sibling and scarfing down dinner.
“[Bruce] has been such a strong kitty and such a fighter. I am such a proud fur mom. This tube, SPCA of Texas, and the staff at CityVet saved my cats life. My boyfriend and I just want to thank you to SPCA of Texas and all the people who donate. To the doctors and nurses at CityVet. We thank you so, so much. Our kitty Bruce is ALIVE, active and eating because of you! With COVID it has been hard for me, and of course 2021 had to slap this in my face too. It’s because of YOU Bruce is still here with us. We thank you so much for saving his life and giving me more years with my mini panther. We are forever grateful!” – Bruce’s mom
